Manchester United have secured Champions League football for 2026/27 but Owen Hargreaves believes that was only possible because of Senne Lammens.
With just two games remaining this season, Manchester United are on track to finish third in the Premier League table.
There has been a resurgence in form under Michael Carrick, who has lost just two of his 15 matches in charge of the Red Devils so far.
United were sixth when Ruben Amorim was sacked, so Carrick deserves huge credit. Former Red Devils star Owen Hargreaves believes a top-four push was only realistic because of Senne Lammens, though.

Senne Lammens was key to Man Utd’s Champions League push
The final signing made last summer was a deadline day deal for Senne Lammens, who arrived from Royal Antwerp in an £18m deal.
This season, Lammens has been exceptional and a major upgrade on Andre Onana.
Speaking to TNT Sports, Hargreaves explained why Lammens has been key to United finishing in the top four.
“I’ll tell you who’s probably been the best signing of all of them: Senne Lammens. What did he cost? Not a lot so he’s been value for money,” Hargreaves said.
“I think United looked at it and thought: ‘What gets us up the table and gets us into the Champions League places?’ It’s not a new midfield player or a goalkeeper, it’s goals.
“So they added Cunha and Mbeumo, guys with Premier League experience who can get you 20-odd goals, and United are third right now so I think that’s been proven correct.
“But I do think if they hadn’t sorted the goalkeeper out, they wouldn’t be in the top four.”
How much is Senne Lammens worth now?
Man Utd got a real bargain… how much of a bargain?
Senne Lammens has helped Man United earn £100m+
Champions League qualification is worth over £100m to United in commercial, broadcast and matchday income.
Ineos want to raise United’s revenue significantly, and it means that consistent Champions League qualification is essential.
Hargreaves is right: Lammens has single-handedly earned United priceless points this season. You only have to look back at the recent 0-0 draw with Sunderland to prove it.

Lammens was United’s best player against Sunderland, and without his saves, Carrick likely leaves the Stadium of Light with no points.
The £18m deal for Lammens is not only a bargain for United, it has already repaid itself through his performances which have helped to secure Champions League football for 2026/27.
