Kobbie Mainoo has thrived ever since Ruben Amorim left Manchester United, continuously proving how wrong the head coach was with his treatment.
There is no denying that Kobbie Mainoo has come out on top over Ruben Amorim, as the Portuguese head coach’s decision not to play him has aged horrendously.
Mainoo immediately returned to his best for Michael Carrick, having a transformative effect on United’s midfield and earning his long-awaited new contract as a result.
After a brilliant 2026, Mainoo also returned to the England set-up and will be at the World Cup this summer. But before that, there has been another message to Amorim.

Kobbie Mainoo’s young player of the year nomination is the latest statement to Ruben Amorim
It continues to be baffling that Amorim ignored Mainoo for so long when you see the levels he has been performing at since January.
These performances have now been recognised by his fellow professionals.
Mainoo has been nominated for the Young Player of the Year by other players in the league, which is quite a telling indication of what his rivals think of him.
For other Premier League players to vote for Mainoo, it shows that they must have been baffled at why he wasn’t playing under Amorim.
This is damning for Amorim and just further vindicates Mainoo for outlasting the head coach, and it is arguably the biggest statement yet that he is rated so highly by everyone apart from United’s worst manager in a generation.

Mainoo treatment will be a decision Amorim will regret
While Amorim was always so stubborn, it would be hard to imagine him ever admitting the error of his ways.
But behind closed doors, he is surely beginning to wonder whether he should have put his ego aside and played the 21-year-old.
Amorim was linked with taking the Fulham job over the past few days, but you would have to think that other Premier League clubs must have been despairing over Amorim’s treatment of Mainoo.
Meanwhile, Mainoo will just continue to make Amorim look the fool as he continues to level up.
Next season, he might even push on further to become one of the finest midfielders in the Premier League, if he isn’t already.
