Bruno Fernandes can become Man Utd’s 10th star to win PFA Player of the Year award

The Portuguese Magnifico’s tremendous season has got even better with further acknowledgement for the high standards he has shown on the pitch.

Currently focused on representing Portugal at the 2026 World Cup, Fernandes has been reminded that he is viewed as one of the best players in the Premier League – if not the best, which all of us at United In Focus believe.

Fernandes is up against five Premier League players for the PFA Player of the Year award, after surpassing a record set by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne for most assists (21) in a single season.

Three of the nominees are from Arsenal after winning the title. They include David Raya, Gabriel and Declan Rice. The other two candidates are Man City duo Rayan Cherki and Erling Haaland.

The last United player to win the PFA Player of the Year award was Wayne Rooney.

Fernandes can become the 10th United player to win it.

United also have a contender for the PFA Young Player of the Year award.

Kobbie Mainoo went from being overlooked by Ruben Amorim to a mainstay under Michael Carrick. The 21-year-old has now been recognised for his performances by receiving a nomination for the PFA’s Young Player of the Year.

Man City have two players on the shortlist for the PFA prize in Cherki and Nico O’Reilly. The other young players include Arsenal’s Max Dowman, Bournemouth’s Junior Kroupi and Liverpool’s Rio Ngumoha.

The last United player to win the PFA’s Young Player of the Year award was Ronaldo in 2006/07.
