Kobbie Mainoo has been key for Manchester United under Michael Carrick, with the head coach restoring his importance.

Every game under Michael Carrick has vindicated Kobbie Mainoo after his treatment at the hands of Ruben Amorim.

Mainoo has been spectacular in midfield next to Casemiro, with his performances seeing him earn a place in the England squad for this summer’s World Cup.

His dominant performances have even seen Mainoo earn a new contract, highlighting his importance to the club. The resurrection of Mainoo at United has also meant that this summer is about finding him a partner.

Michael Carrick explains what is so good about Kobbie Mainoo

What once might have been a summer to replace Mainoo, if Amorim had stayed in charge, now becomes building around the 21-year-old.

Now, speaking to the media ahead of United’s season finale, Carrick has explained that Mainoo’s brilliance and adaptability makes it so easy to plan transfers.

“I mean, there’s a balance. There’s a balance as a football club, because you’re not necessarily, whenever it is, bringing a player in just to play with one player. I think it’s about fitting the squad, the balance of the squad, being able to cope with playing here in different competitions for so many games.

“So it’s not necessarily…I’m talking quite broad here in general. With any player, you’re not just bringing them just to play with one player, but certainly there’s a dynamics and there’s a balance that needs to be had.

“The beauty about Kobbie is that he can do so many things well, and I think he’s proven that, and he’s evolved so much in the four or five months that I’ve seen his progress. And that’s him. I’m not taking the credit for that. He’s done that himself, but I think he’s shown that he can do so many things.

“So it makes bringing players in to play with a player like Kobbie a little bit easier when he can adapt himself, and I think he’s adapted over time, playing a slightly different role for us already.”

How would YOU spend Man United’s rumoured £250m transfer budget?💰

Manchester United’s midfield rebuild is taking shape

The transfer window doesn’t open for a couple of weeks, yet already United are seemingly close to adding a couple of midfielders.

Reports in Italy and England suggest that United are closing in on Ederson from Atalanta, costing £34m up front in a deal to bolster the squad options, not necessarily a starter.

Meanwhile, United’s links to Mateus Fernandes continue to heat up, with the general feeling that United lead the race and if West Ham’s relegation is confirmed, his signing might be a formality.

These two immediately upgrade United from this season’s options, likely leaving another healthy chunk to spend on a third midfielder.

The most exciting thing is the midfield are all good on the ball, physical and quick.

Options for Carrick who can all play in the same manner, not having to build a system around one player.
