Jadon Sancho could now look to one former Manchester United teammate as his best blueprint to salvage what remains of his professional playing career.
The 26-year-old former England international was released from Manchester United this summer after his contract at Old Trafford had finally expired.
Jadon Sancho spent his last two full seasons at Man Utd out on loan, as the former Borussia Dortmund ace played for Premier League sides Chelsea and Aston Villa.
However, the ex-Chelsea and Aston Villa winger was unable to impress at either Stamford Bridge or Villa Park during the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons respectively.

Where does Jadon Sancho rank amongst Man Utd’s WORST-EVER signings?
Would you put him above Antony? Alexis Sanchez? What went wrong for him?
Jesse Lingard has proven to former Man Utd winger Jadon Sancho that there is a way back to football if he puts the effort in
Jadon Sancho has now found himself in the same ‘free agent’ status that Jesse Lingard had become all too familiar with after he left Nottingham Forest.
Jesse Lingard left Nottingham Forest after only one season and spent eight months without professional football before he signed for K League 1 side FC Seoul.
The 33-year-old, who is now at Brazilian side Corinthians, learned quickly that he was no longer desired as he might have thought earlier in his playing career.
It was down to Lingard to show that he still had ‘something’ to offer to a club and only then would a team be willing to throw him a lifeline in his career.
Lingard’s career has dwindled since his time at Manchester United, but he managed to keep playing football at club level, despite fading into obscurity for large parts.
Where did it all go wrong for Jadon Sancho? Is he the biggest Man Utd flop of ALL TIME?
It's finally official – Jadon Sancho is gone
Jadon Sancho’s options post-Man Utd are bleak and he’s walking a tightrope like Jesse Lingard did before him
A third spell with Borussia Dortmund is effectively off the table unless something dramatic happens, so Sancho’s future is out of his hands for the long term.
Sancho’s stock value at Man Utd hit an all-time low after his flop spell at Old Trafford and the former Three Lions winger is a high-risk, low-reward signing now.
The former Borussia Dortmund winger has reportedly been linked with Qatari club Al-Rayyan, who would be willing to sign him this summer on a free transfer.
However, it is the bottom-of-the-barrel pickings for Sancho and the route that Lingard took to salvage his career could be his only real — and let’s face it — best option now.
