Ineos must now restore the power balance with Ruben Amorim by having the final say over what must happen next with one Manchester United star at Old Trafford.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s regime at Old Trafford backed Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim with a major summer spending spree after the 2024-25 season.
United manager Ruben Amorim was able to welcome the likes of Matheus Cunha, Diego Leon, Benjamin Sesko, Senne Lammens and Bryan Mbeumo to United.
The summer transfer window was the first real opportunity for Amorim to overhaul the United first-team squad that he inherited from Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag.
Amorim was also able to clear out the excess players from United, including Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Hojlund, Antony and Jadon Sancho.

Ineos backed Ruben Amorim to make the huge decision over Man Utd winger Jadon Sancho
Jadon Sancho had been on loan at Chelsea when Erik ten Hag was sacked and Ruben Amorim was appointed United manager during the 2024-25 campaign.
The 25-year-old former England international’s spell at Old Trafford took a turn for the worse after Sancho had a high-profile falling out with Ten Hag in 2023.
Chelsea had agreed to sign Sancho in a deal in 2024 and the season-long loan transfer included an obligation to buy the out-of-favour United winger permanently.
But the Blues instead triggered a penalty clause and sent Sancho back to United in the summer rather than paying out a transfer fee in the region of £20m to £25m.
ESPN had reported in March 2024 that the Red Devils had reportedly allowed Amorim to have the final say on Sancho’s future in the ‘unlikely event’ he returned.
Amorim had suggested that any United player who had been unable to leave Old Trafford in the summer would have been reintegrated into the squad this season.

Ineos must now extend its influence beyond Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim and make the ‘right’ decision over Jadon Sancho
Jadon Sancho was handed another lifeline opportunity in the summer after he made his exit from Old Trafford and completed a loan move to Aston Villa.
However, the former Borussia Dortmund ace has failed to light up the world during his 2025-26 season-long loan spell so far and the writing seems to be on the wall.
Sancho has made five appearances for Aston Villa since the start of his loan move in September, but he has failed to score or assist for the Premier League side so far.
The United loanee is out of contract with the Red Devils in 2026, but the Manchester Evening News reports that the club do have the option to extend his current deal.
But Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe need to accept that United must cut their losses and allow Sancho to walk on a free rather than extending their cause to recoup a fee.
Amorim should not have the same opportunity to decide what to do with Sancho next and Ineos must offload a player who is clearly surplus to requirements.
