Paul Scholes and Tim Sherwood drop their feelings on Jadon Sancho amid the Man Utd winger’s Aston Villa loan spell
Jadon Sancho returned to Old Trafford in the summer after his 2024-25 season-long loan to Chelsea, with the Blues deciding not to make his move permanent.
Chelsea paid United a penalty fee for walking back on their obligation to buy Jadon Sancho, who was linked with Serie A sides Roma and Juventus in the summer.
Sancho’s time at United lasted only the summer and the 25-year-old former England international was offloaded to Premier League side Aston Villa for a loan spell.
Speaking on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, Tim Sherwood said: “I like the boy.
“I think he’s got – I don’t know him as a person – but I think he’s got a lot of ability.”
Interjecting during Sherwood’s verdict on Aston Villa winger Sancho, Paul Scholes responded: “Loads of ability.”
Sherwood then continued: “He needs to do it on a regular basis.
“You know, on a consistent basis, and if he does that, I mean, he’s good enough to play, you know, [at an] enormous amount of clubs.”
Man Utd legend Paul Scholes and Tim Sherwood both react to Jadon Sancho’s latest twist at Aston Villa
Jadon Sancho climbed off the bench in the first half of Aston Villa’s Premier League encounter with Manchester City and replaced Emi Buendia at Villa Park.
However, the United loanee’s run on the pitch would come to an end in the 74th minute after Villa manager Unai Emery subbed him off for Evann Guessand.
Reacting to the incident, Scholes told co-host Paddy McGuinness: “It’s not nice to him.”
Sherwood, on the other hand, broke down the full situation and could see why Sancho was subbed on in the first place before he was taken off in the match.
“I think with Jadon, though, I think Unai has come out and said I only wanted to play him for half an hour,” he said.
“He [Emery] said after the game [it was] only because of his fitness. So, I think because he had an injury, Buendia comes off, he’s thrown him on and he’s [ended] up playing 60-odd minutes.
“So, he’s probably played a lot more than what he thought. But Jadon’s reaction, he knows you’re going to say [it] today: you’ve been subbed-subbed.
“You know, he knows not only you, but other people are going to look at it and say, ‘It’s [a] negative vibe.’
“But I think you read into it a little bit and you see the quotes from the manager. This manager knows what he’s doing.”
Villa’s loan deal with United for Sancho has seen the Premier League club cover the majority of his wages, coupled with the loan fee and easily achievable bonuses.
