Mexican starlet Gilberto Mora was expected to break out during his home World Cup, and now this is coming to fruition after a top-class performance against Ecuador.
Manchester United’s interest in Gilberto Mora has been well documented over the past year or so.
The 17-year-old is wanted by Europe’s biggest clubs, with Club Tijuana locking Mora down to a new contract this summer already in anticipation of a sale in the next year or so.
Former United player Chicharito has already hailed Mora this summer, with the teenager’s World Cup campaign all but guaranteeing that he will soon be heading to Europe and potentially the Premier League.
In particular, Mora has shown United he’s worth signing as soon as possible in his latest performance.

How Gilberto Mora fared in the physical midfield battle vs Ecuador
Mexico in Mexico City at the Azteca are a different animal at this World Cup, and Tuesday night saw the Mexicans stroll past a physical and defensive Ecuador side 2-0.
Mora started this game in midfield, coming up against Chelsea’s £115m man, Moises Caicedo, which was a brilliant litmus test of whether he is ready for the Premier League.
The 17-year-old held his own physically, technically, and in every way possible, looking every bit as good as Caicedo despite the £115m transfer being potentially eight times what Mora will cost.
115 reasons for United to push ahead with this deal.

Caicedo and Ecuador represented a really tough challenge for Mexico and Mora, being such an aggressive and physical side off the ball, but they coped so well.
This is particularly impressive from Mora, because he is just 17 and has a slight appearance, which is deceptive because he proved he has that tenacity which will serve him well if he were to join United in the Premier League.
In terms of profile, Mora is close to an Andres Iniesta, but this World Cup campaign is showing he isn’t a naive kid, but is a midfielder ready to compete at the highest level, both on and off the ball.
United have long been in the Mora race, but this performance sets him up with a chance to truly announce himself in the last 16 against England, after which he could have half of Europe watching and chasing him.
Mora at United in a hypothetical post-Bruno Fernandes world as one of two eights with Kobbie Mainoo, and then a top-class number six. This would be a brilliant trio for the future and would make up for United missing out on Mateus Fernandes.

Manchester United links to Mora are heating up
Mora’s performance against Ecuador will only heat up the links, drawing the teenager to Europe, and it comes in the wake of recent links.
According to TeamTalk in recent days, United are in an aggressive pursuit of Mora ahead of his probable transfer in 2027 after his 18th birthday.
The report did explain that Mora is dreaming of Real Madrid, and United would need to convince him to join over his boyhood dream.
One advantage is that Mora will see how young prospects at Madrid struggle to get game time, and United could offer him a better development route.
Nothing will happen for this summer, unless a deal can be agreed in advance, but United shouldn’t be missing out on Mora.
