Forget Tchouameni, Man Utd might sign another Real Madrid star who is a better fit for Carrick

The Aurelien Tchouameni to Man Utd transfer rumours refuse to go away, but what if they are a smokescreen for another deal?

If there’s one thing Ineos have proven beyond doubt this summer, it’s that they are adept at keeping their cards close to their chest.

Neither Andrey Santos nor Youri Tielemans‘ rumours were much in the press, and the deals were official two days later in both cases.

It makes you think whether there’s mileage in Aurelien Tchouameni rumours, or if it’s building up to the signing of his teammate who fits more positions than the Frenchman?

Man Utd are still being linked with a late swoop for Aurelien Tchouameni: Should we still be pursuing this?

If there is any chance Tchouameni is available, should he be our number one target?

Man Utd might see Eduardo Camavinga as more attainable

Real Madrid are in the middle of a squad revamp in Jose Mourinho’s image, and there are bound to be casualties.

The potential arrival of Rodri will cause a quake in the defensive midfield, an area that was already quite stacked.

Add to that their recent splurge on Yan Diomande, and it’s quite clear that Madrid are working under the assumption that one big sale will happen.

Tchouameni seems more “in favour” than Eduardo Camavinga, who is increasingly looking like the odd man out in that squad.

United might see Camavinga as more attainable than Tchouameni, both in terms of transfer fees and potential wages.

Furthermore, United face quite a job in trying to convince Tchouameni to move to Old Trafford, so going through the same exercise for Camavinga isn’t a challenge either.

More importantly, Camavinga might just be a better tactical fit for this Man Utd squad.

Camavinga can play as a left-back as well

United are in the market for a midfielder, a left-sided player, and a backup striker, and Camavinga fills two of those spots on his own.

WHO will be Man Utd’s THIRD midfielder signing to go with Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans? Who do you want?

Which midfielder do you think would fit United's rebuild best? What do we need next?

He has been a selfless team player for Madrid, playing as a left-back during their injury crisis, and managing to play well in a completely unnatural position for him.

His athleticism, quality on the ball, and technical excellence allowed for that smooth transition, making his ceiling even higher.

Tchouameni, in contrast, has played as a centre-back, where United look good for now. Camavinga’s secondary position is more suited to United than his teammate’s.

It would sum up this summer’s window if, after being linked to Tchouameni all summer, it is suddenly reported that a deal for Camavinga has been struck.

That would not be a bad smokescreen at all.
