Manchester United CEO Omar Berrada has sprung some transfer surprises already this summer, including the signing of Youri Tielemans.

It has been a busy few days for Manchester United in the transfer business, with three new signings welcomed to the club.

Despite very few transfer reports, United struck a £35 million deal to sign Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa and the move was completed swiftly by the Red Devils.

Tielemans was unveiled next to sporting director Jason Wilcox on Tuesday afternoon, and CEO Omar Berrada will be pleased that his transfer plan is taking shape.

Omar Berrada promised surprises in the transfer market

Last month, Berrada sat down to speak to Andy Mitten, and his comments on the transfer plan this summer are ageing well.

“You have to be really prepared,” Berrada said.

“You have to have a clear plan, you have to know exactly what positions you’re looking to strengthen and you also have to be prepared for any eventuality. There could be exits we’re not expecting, there could be opportunities in the market that perhaps weren’t there at the beginning of the window.

“So, we have to be ready, we have to be agile and flexible. But we have a clear plan. Jason Wilcox and his team are very well set up to execute that plan.”

Tielemans is evidence of United’s agility and flexibility in the market. His release clause was discovered and Ineos moved quickly and decisively to get a deal done quickly.

Man United could launch more transfer surprises

It is widely reported that United want a third midfield signing to complete their summer rebuild, but supporters are now left guessing about who that could be.

So far, both the Andrey Santos and Tielemans deals were sprung from the dark and completed quickly with very little noise beforehand.

That could happen again with the third midfield signing.

While there are concrete links to Carlos Baleba, Manu Kone and others, Ineos have proven this summer that their transfer plan is water-tight, with very little being revealed in the media before a deal is agreed.
