Ruben Amorim has an impressive record of promoting youth players and one Manchester United academy star is next in line.

Before his appointment as Manchester United head coach, Ruben Amorim gave 27 debuts to academy players at Sporting Lisbon.

It was one of the many reasons why Ineos felt confident giving him the Old Trafford hotseat, and Amorim has continued showing faith in youth in his first year as United boss.

Chido Obi, Ayden Heaven, Harry Amass and Tyler Fredricson have all been welcomed into the first-team squad by Amorim, and there are now several exciting youngsters hoping to follow in their footsteps and make their breakthrough in 2025/26.

Shea Lacey has been impressing in Man United training

Ahead of the trip to Anfield, Shea Lacey was promoted to first-team training by Amorim, and the noise surrounding the 18-year-old has been nothing but excitement.

Amorim is encouraged by Lacey’s progress since his return to fitness, and the young winger will soon be knocking on the door for first-team opportunities.

According to GiveMeSport, Shea Lacey has been “tearing it up” in training. He is described as “fearless, creative, and always looking to make something happen. He’s really caught the eye.”

It is added that Amorim is keeping a “close watch” on Lacey’s development this season, and considering he is averaging a goal every 95 minutes in Premier League 2 this season, he must like what he is seeing.

Harry Maguire is mentoring Lacey off the pitch, and if he continues on his current trajectory, they could soon be sharing the pitch together at Old Trafford.

Where Shea Lacey fits into Ruben Amorim’s system

Lacey predominantly plays as a right winger for United’s youth sides, but comparisons to Phil Foden are made because he is technically brilliant in tight spaces.

Amorim has been ‘meticulously’ training his 3-4-2-1 formation since his appointment, so Lacey will need to figure out where he fits within that shape.

There are two options that stand out, either as an attacking No.10 role like the one played by Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, or as a wing-back.

Amad Diallo is a perfect wing-back in Amorim’s system because of his athleticism, direct running and attacking threat. Lacey could find himself as a wing-back, although there would be question marks around his physicality and defensive work.
