Benjamin Sesko is becoming a victim of Ineos transfer success at Man United

Benjamin Sesko is feeling the wrath of the media spotlight at Manchester United just a few months after his summer move.

Since completing a £66m move from RB Leipzig in the summer, Benjamin Sesko has scored two goals for Manchester United in 10 Premier League appearances.

It means the Slovenian striker has already matched the goal tally achieved by Rasmus Hojlund in the league last year.

However, that hasn’t saved Sesko from being heavily scrutinised. After the 4-2 win over Brighton, Gary Neville criticised Sesko’s build-up play despite United’s No.30 picking up his first assist.

After the 2-2 draw, Neville called Sesko ‘awkward’, and reiterated that he is not convinced by the 22-year-old.

Benjamin Sesko compared to Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha

United’s recruitment in the past decade has been well below par, but there has been a significant shift since the Ineos takeover.

This season, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha have shone immediately since switching from Premier League sides Brentford and Wolves respectively.

Even Senne Lammens has been flawless since joining on deadline day.

Mbeumo and Cunha have been praised for hitting the ground running, but their success is simultaneously resulting in criticism for Sesko.

Two goals in 586 minutes of Premier League football is not a terrible record for United’s new striker, yet he is constantly being compared to Mbeumo and Cunha who have both made a bigger impact.

Sesko is being held to the same expectations as his attacking counterparts despite being younger and having come from a different league. Pointing the media spotlight on the young Slovenian will only pile on more pressure.

Benjamin Sesko deserves time to settle

Only Casemiro and Mbeumo have scored more for United than Sesko has this season.

While Cunha and Mbeumo arrived with Premier League experience, Sesko has had to settle into new surroundings and adapt to the physicality of English football.

Amorim is pleased with Sesko and his attitude behind the scenes, and his desire to learn and improve himself should convince fans that he will only get better with time.

But Sesko will need time, and he deserves patience. Rasmus Hojlund ended up being overwhelmed with responsibility last season as the only option up front.

United need to learn from Hojlund’s failures and not burden Sesko too early into his spell.
