Ayden Heaven could solve two glaring issues at Manchester United under Ruben Amorim, he said it himself

Ayden Heaven is about to become a Manchester United player, with the Arsenal man swapping the Emirates for Old Trafford.

Heaven has a medical booked for United, and will officially become one of the first signings of the Ruben Amorim era.

Fabrizio Romano issued a ‘here we go’ on Heaven on Tuesday morning, which all but usually confirms he’s a Manchester United player.

The centre-back is one for the future, but having already featured for the Gunners, could he come in immediately and bring something to the Manchester United first-team squad? He seems to think so.

Ayden Heaven wants to keep clean sheets and score from set pieces

Heaven is a big defender, standing tall at 6’2 – meaning he’ll add some much-needed physicality to the Manchester United side, which the defender knows himself.

Heaven told Arsenal’s website in September 2023: “As a defender, my main priority this season will be for us to keep more clean sheets, but I also want to score more goals and be a threat from set pieces.

“I’m still one of the tallest, so I need to use my physicality to my advantage and get on the end of our dead-ball situations.”

Under Amorim, Manchester United have kept just two clean sheets in 17 games this season. That was in the 4-0 victory against Everton in the Premier League and in the 1-0 victory over Fulham on Sunday evening.

As for set pieces, Manchester United need more of a hand defending them – but certainly haven’t been prolific in front of goal with them either. Heaven will be useful.

Heaven can help Manchester United’s awful set-piece record

Shipping goals from corners and free-kicks has been all too regular for the United defence over the past 12 months – as was shown in December when the Red Devils set a ridiculous, and unwanted, Premier League record.

In the 3-0 defeat the Bournemouth, a Dean Huijsen header meant that Manchester United shipped a 17th set-piece goal of the calendar year.

For this reason, not only can Heaven look to help in attack with his physical prowess, but also at the back.

With Heaven’s arrival imminent, Patrick Dorgu looks to be next for the Red Devils. He’s also a bit of a unit, so it’s clear to see the vision Ineos now have under Amorim.
