Manchester United prospect Harry Amass got another chance to shine in pre-season, amid the club’s left-back dilemma.

Neither left-back Luke Shaw or Tyrell Malacia are available for the USA tour. Both players have shaky injury records, leading to Manchester United considering signing a new left-back.

No move is considered close, providing an opportunity to academy talents Harry Amass and Sam Murray.

While Murray had started against Rosenborg and Rangers, it was Amass selected to start against Arsenal.

Harry Amass praised after performance

Harry Amass was given a real vote of confidence with the decision taken to name him as starter against the Gunners.

Amass performed well, demonstrating a confidence and ability to run with the ball and linking up with his teammates well.

He was unlucky with Arsenal’s first half goal, attempting to play Gabriel Jesus offside – and it looked like he was. VAR was not on call to intervene.

Amass, only 17, did not look daunted against senior players, and Manchester United fans hope he can bring his stunning academy form to first team level.

The teenager posted to Instagram following the win, writing simply ‘First one’, indicating he is keen for more opportunities.

Several Manchester United academy teammates responded to Amass’ message. Two of them were Ethan Wheatley and Sam Mather, two of the other 12 youngsters also taken on the USA tour.

Another was Willy Kambwala, who departed United earlier this summer to sign with Villarreal.

Kambwala left a message which read: “Top, top”, in response to Amass.

Amass could save United millions

Harry Amass has been training with the first team since late last season and was named on the first team bench. He is yet to make his senior debut.

Senior star Luke Shaw has picked Amass out as a player to watch, confident the former Watford prospect can be a success for the club.

That’s why it is so exciting he is getting his opportunity on pre-season tour. He will have a role to play in upcoming games against Real Betis and Liverpool, and is in line to now start both.
