Manchester United manager Michael Carrick singled out the displays of two individuals after the Red Devils’ first pre-season summer tour win against Rosenborg.

The Red Devils had visited the Lerkendal Stadion in Norway on Friday evening and Michael Carrick oversaw a superb performance from Manchester United.

Man Utd inflicted a 5-0 drubbing on Rosenborg after the likes of Shea Lacey, Joshua Zirkzee, Jacob Devaney, Harry Amass and Ethan Williams all scored on the day.

The Red Devils bounced back to winning ways in Trondheim after Man Utd had lost to Wrexham 1-0 at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium in their opening pre-season match.

Man Utd boss Michael Carrick puts his attention on Radek Vitek and Dermot Mee for one reason

Michael Carrick had turned to Radek Vitek to start in Manchester United’s 5-0 win against Rosenborg and the 22-year-old Czech shot-stopper played 72 minutes.

Following Radek Vitek’s display at the Lerkendal Stadion, Carrick opted to offer some much-needed minutes to Man Utd talent Dermot Mee in the pre-season friendly.

Tom Heaton had started United’s opening pre-season defeat to Wrexham before Vitek had a second-half cameo during the clash in Finland last Saturday.

Speaking after Man Utd’s encounter with Rosenborg, Carrick said that a major positive for both Vitek and Dermot Mee was the Red Devils’ clean sheet.

“Radek got good minutes, just over 70, so really pleased with what he did today and Derm [Mee] coming on towards the end was nice to get him on the pitch,” he told MUTV, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“I thought we defended pretty well as a team for the most part, a couple of little bits earlier on we had to work out, but I thought we defended well as a team and protected the goalkeepers largely, but yeah, clean sheets are a beautiful thing!”

With Senne Lammens’ absence, Michael Carrick can see more from the likes of Radek Vitek and Dermot Mee

Senne Lammens has been absent for the start of Man Utd’s pre-season summer tour after he received an extended break following Belgium’s campaign at the World Cup.

However, the 24-year-old Belgium international’s absence from the pre-season campaign has allowed Carrick to witness more from the likes of Radek Vitek.

Vitek impressed last season at Bristol City during a superb loan spell and United fans have been keen for him to play second fiddle to Senne Lammens in the first team.

Lammens will link up with his Man Utd teammates before the pre-season campaign is up, but Vitek will no doubt have more minutes coming his way this summer.
