According to The Mail, Manchester United are pursuing highly rated teenager Josh Feeney.
Aston Villa are also reported to be keen and 16-year-old Feeney has a decision to make on his future.
Feeney would be a target for United’s academy where he would go into the under-18s team.
Here is a little look at what we can tell you about the talented prospect…
1) Feeney plays for Fleetwood Town’s academy. They accept he is going to leave and are looking for a six-figure fee. He will be a free agent from July, but Fleetwood could claim a fee via tribunal.
2) Feeney plays as a centre-back and has trained with Fleetwood’s first team.
3) Feeney has been at the centre of an international tug-of-war. He represented Scotland at under-16s before switching to England in March, the Daily Record reported.
4) Feeney scored for England’s under-16s in a 6-0 victory over Northern Ireland last week.
5) He linked up with two United players in that game, goalkeeper Tom Wooster and defender Louis Jackson.
So will he choose to sign with United?
For a young talent like Josh Feeney this may not be a simple decision, with Aston Villa also involved.
Villa won the FA Youth Cup in 2020/21 and also have a good track record of developing young talent, with Carney Chukwuemeka among the members of that side to step up to the first team at the end of the season.
United of course have an incredible record of developing youth talent too, but Feeney might have to be a little more patient.
The youngster is familiar with making tough decisions, as his recent switch from Scotland to England shows.
Getting the chance to develop alongside England teammate Louis Jackson and form a defensive partnership could be appealing to him.
United are stepping up pursuit of English based players this summer at academy level, with Brexit rules meaning overseas youngsters must be 18 or older to join.
