Manchester United fans are awaiting news on prospective manager Ruben Amorim.
Ruben Amorim is still the Sporting manager for now, and not the Manchester United boss. At the moment.
Amorim is in United’s crosshairs as a replacement for Erik ten Hag, and insists it will be his decision whether or not he leaves.
On Tuesday night, Amorim took charge of Sporting against Nacional, with his side winning the match 3-1.
Ruben Amorim to Manchester United expected
Ruben Amorim is swaying towards joining Manchester United, with the two clubs still negotiating over the details.
Amorim has said he can say all he can publicly for now. The highly-rated manager is the next Manchester United manager in-waiting, but not there yet.
Sporting’s 3-1 win over Nacional was a straightforward victory for his side, and just like Amorim was asked about his situation after the match, his opposing counterpart was too.
Nacional manager Tiago Margarido spoke out following his side’s 3-1 cup defeat, telling Mais Futebol that he regards Amorim highly, and backs him to be successful at Old Trafford.
He said: “Amorim is an example for all of us, especially the younger ones, not only because of his attitude but also because of the way he communicates.
“Whatever happens, I wish him all the best. If the transfer goes through, it will be a great signing for Man United.
“It is a good destination for him and I think he can be very successful.”
Ruud van Nistelrooy in interim charge
While Manchester United wait on Ruben Amorim, and Ruben Amorim waits on Manchester United, Ruud van Nistelrooy will take interim charge.
Van Nistelrooy will be in the dugout for Manchester United’s Carabao Cup game at home to Leicester City.
What the future remains for him remains unclear. Amorim is expected to bring in his own coaching staff.
Van Nistelrooy has his own ambitions in management. A strong result at Old Trafford will stand him in good stead, for whatever his future holds.
