Manchester United have been linked with a surprise transfer enquiry for West Ham star Crysencio Summerville, who is enjoying the mentorship he is receiving from Ruud van Nistelrooy at the World Cup.
The 2026 World Cup is underway, and we’ve seen a couple of Manchester United players in action, with more nations to play their opening fixtures over the course of the week.
Amad Diallo stole the headlines with his late winner against Ecuador, while Manuel Ugarte would have been disappointed with last night’s 1-1 draw against Uruguay.
United fans are also keeping an eye out for players that could make a positive difference to the team next season, if signed. Netherlands winger Crysencio Summerville is the latest target to fit into that category.

Crysencio Summerville enjoying Ruud van Nistelrooy’s influence
United have been linked with several players for the left flank this summer, including full-backs and wingers.
With Marcus Rashford unlikely to have a future at Old Trafford, it makes sense that the Red Devils would target a new option for the left flank – unless Michael Carrick opts to keep Matheus Cunha on the left.
It also remains to be seen whether Patrick Dorgu will develop his game as a left-back or winger in the coming season, after impressing in a more advanced role under Carrick, scoring three goals in as many starts.
According to The Athletic, United have made formal contact regarding West Ham’s Summerville.
Despite suffering relegation from the Premier League this past season, Summerville has seen his stock rise at the World Cup, scoring as the Netherlands drew 2-2 with Japan.
However, after scoring in his first game at a major international tournament, the 24-year-old dedicated his goal to assistant coach and United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Speaking to Nu.nl, Summerville lifted the lid on how he enjoys taking advice from Van Nistelrooy.
“I had promised him that if I scored, I would go to him,” said Summerville.
“Also on the pitch, in terms of finishing. He gives me good advice. He was a top striker, and I can learn a lot from him. Cutting inside and shooting was also one of his tips.”
As a young forward eager to learn, Van Nistelrooy can help Summerville take it to the next level, but only time will tell if that materialises into a transfer to United.
Summerville is one to watch throughout the tournament. They take on Sweden in their second group game on Saturday.

Crysencio Summerville’s record against Man Utd
Summerville played his first game against United as a Leeds player in 2023.
The winger has since established himself in the Premier League, but has only managed to win one of his four matches against the Reds.
The Dutch winger also scored in West Ham’s 2-1 win over United in 2024.
