For the first time this season, 19-year-old centre-back Leny Yoro should be available for selection after completing a £52m move to United from Lille in the summer.

Yoro recently returned to training after recovering from a fractured metatarsal in pre-season. He was one of 11 senior players to feature in Ruben Amorim’s first training session on Monday afternoon.

Amorim is set to implement a 3-4-3 formation at United which will provide plenty of opportunities for United’s centre-backs, especially Leny Yoro.

What Ruben Amorim was heard saying to Leny Yoro in training

United have suffered some poorly timed injuries at centre-back ahead of Amorim’s debut with Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire all expected to miss the trip to Ipswich.

As a result, United made a U-turn with Yoro after initially planning for him to play with the Under-21s this week. Instead, Yoro was withdrawn from the youth squad so he is ready for Sunday’s Premier League clash.

The young French defender must have impressed Amorim in training during his first week at the club, and The Athletic have now revealed a conversation between the player and coach.

They report that Amorim has been training United with three centre-backs with Yoro on the right-hand side of the three.

Amorim pulled Yoro aside during training to say: “Be more open, take the ball, and you already know that they (the opponent) can’t press from here (behind).”

United will be expected to pass out from the back under Amorim and Yoro will play a key part in that. The teenager has already shown great composure in his passing while at Lille.

Leny Yoro is perfect for Ruben Amorim at Man United

Just in case any supporters forgot, United beat Real Madrid to sign Yoro this summer and he is widely regarded as one of the brightest young defenders in world football.

His attributes also look like they will perfectly suit Amorim’s system at United. He is athletic, quick and composed with the ball at his feet.

Wes Brown hailed Yoro as a “difference maker” and tipped him to thrive under Amorim at United. It has also been suggested that Amorim loves players like Yoro.

Yoro has the chance to follow in Kobbie Mainoo’s footsteps and burst onto the scene midseason and become a key player under Amorim. He can start on Sunday with Amorim expected to name him as a starter at Portman Road.
