Manchester United summer signing Leny Yoro has now opened up on the invaluable “advice” that he received from one Red Devils legend who was visiting Carrington.

French defender Leny Yoro was brought to Old Trafford in the summer after Manchester United signed him from Ligue 1 outfit Lille in July.

The 19-year-old centre-back, who had also attracted interest from Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool, had already impressed during his time with Lille.

United splashed out a deal worth £52.18m, including a further £6.73m, to land Yoro and strengthen former Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag’s first-team squad.

However, Yoro missed the opening of the 2024-25 Premier League season after he suffered an injury during the pre-season tour in the United States.

The former Lille star was forced off the pitch in the first half of the 2-1 defeat to Arsenal at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles in July.

Yoro successfully underwent surgery on his foot injury in August and the United defender has been sidelined for the opening months of the campaign.

Yoro talks Man Utd legend and advice

Leny Yoro is taking important steps on his path to recovery and the Manchester United summer signing was snapped on the training pitch last month.

Erik ten Hag was unable to use the United star during the season before the Red Devils sacked the Dutchman in late October.

Ruben Amorim, who succeeded Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, could be ready to deploy Yoro on his United return if he implements a three-man backline.

Yoro was at Carrington when he was paid a visit by United legend Rio Ferdinand, who played a role in helping push the Red Devils’ acquisition of the player.

The United star has now revealed that Rio Ferdinand, who is Yoro’s idol, told him what he needed to do on the pitch and what could be positive for him.

“He just explained to me how big United is,” Yoro told Manchester United’s official website.

“He explained what to do on the pitch and what can be good for me – just some advice, you know?

“They are a big part of the history of the club so it’s always good to speak with guys like this, to learn more about the club and how to play on the pitch.”

Yoro eager for Man Utd return

It remains unclear when Yoro will be match-ready for the Red Devils, but the French centre-back is keen to make his first appearance for United this season.

“Honestly, all the times I come to watch the games, I just want to be on the pitch,” he admitted.

“I know it’s closer now, so I stay ready and I just want to be on the pitch with the guys and to fight for the club.

“The fans, they have been amazing. They always support me and they send me a lot of messages to support me through the injury.

“They look forward to seeing me so I hope I will give them a good way to play and I’m just looking forward to being with them in the stadium.”
