Manchester United remain in talks with Mateus Fernandes and West Ham fans are worried about losing their Portuguese midfielder.

The midfield overhaul at Old Trafford has begun with a £38m deal for Ederson, but Ineos are quickly moving onto other targets.

United are in talks with Mateus Fernandes, who was relegated with West Ham this season.

According to reports, United are ready to pay £50m for Fernandes, but the Hammers value him closer to £80m. As talks continue, West Ham fans are far from pleased about potentially losing the 21-year-old star.

West Ham fans do not want to lose Mateus Fernandes

West Ham fans were understandably frustrated with much of their squad after suffering relegation to the Championship this season, but Mateus Fernandes was a silver lining to their otherwise miserable campaign.

Speaking on the TalkingPoints platform, supporters on HammersNews named Fernandes as the player they would be “most disappointed” to sell this summer.

One TalkingPoints user wrote: “Jarrod Bowen is the obvious answer, but mine is Mateus Fernandes. At least we saw Bowen shine for 6 years. Fernandes should have become a West Ham legend and been sold for close to £100m if not for this relegation.”

Another TalkingPoints post read: “Fernandes. But I don’t blame him. 80mill, no less. 21 years old, superb player, will only get better and better.”

A third TalkingPoints user said he was worried that Fernandes would be sold for only £60m: “That’s what he’s worth (£80m), but I think he’ll go for less. I’m worried they’ll accept £60m + add-ons.”

Mateus Fernandes could prove to be a bargain for Man United

Based on the reaction of West Ham fans, they clearly believe that Fernandes is being undervalued this summer.

Because of West Ham’s relegation, they are somewhat being forced to sell key players in order to balance their books.

Additionally, Fernandes is keen to join United. He has previously expressed his adoration for Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo.

If United can get a deal done for around £50m-£60m, it seems it could end up being a bargain for a player that was very highly-rated at the London Stadium.

Fernandes is still only 21 years old, so United are investing in a player with Premier League experience who is still yet to hit his prime.
