Wayne Rooney stunned one former Manchester United man after he sparked a hilarious reaction over the admissions that he made about his time as a player.

The 38-year-old former Manchester United striker burst onto the scene at Everton under ex-Toffees boss David Moyes and made a name for himself at the club.

Wayne Rooney would leave Goodison Park in 2004 after former manager Sir Alex Ferguson snapped him up for United in a deal worth up to £27m.

The United and England legend had an incredible playing career at Old Trafford, including becoming the Red Devils’ all-time leading scorer.

Rooney continued his career long after Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013 and would later become United captain under former Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal.

The former Everton and United star captured five Premier League titles, a Champions League, a Europa League, an FA Cup and three League Cups.

Rooney’s legendary spell at Old Trafford came to an end in 2017 and the former United captain returned to boyhood club Everton for a second spell.

Rooney praised as ‘unbelievable player’

Wayne Rooney saw out the tail end of his playing career at DC United and Derby County before he called it time on football as a player in 2021.

The Manchester United legend wasted no time in entering the world of coaching after his playing career, with Rooney currently in charge of Plymouth Argyle.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, former United and Everton manager David Moyes admitted that he had to manage Rooney in a certain way when he first emerged.

“Wayne was an unbelievable player so we don’t really need to mention that too much because everybody knows that,” he said.

“But I think how you handle any 16-year-old is very difficult. I don’t think it comes with a book that tells you how to deal with it.

“He was a proper Scouser, he had his own ways and was a tough boy, his own pals and ways of going about things.

“Going into being a professional is a big difference. He was still playing in the streets with his pals which was great and he was still going out.”

Rooney shares stories with Moyes

Rooney has previously opened up on the antics that he would be getting up to as a player, including pranking Moyes when he was at Goodison Park with Everton.

The former England captain linked up with Moyes again after the 61-year-old Scotsman arrived as Sir Alex Ferguson’s replacement at Old Trafford in 2013.

However, Moyes endured an ill-fated spell as United manager and the former Everton and West Ham boss was sacked in 2014.

Moyes revealed that he would have ‘died’ if he were still a manager after Rooney had told him some of the “unbelievable stories” he did during their time at dinner.

The former United boss continued: “I’ve got to say that recently I had dinner with Wayne and he told me some unbelievable stories, which, if I think if was a manager now, I’d die if I heard them!

“I was really fortunate though and I remember Walter Smith saying to me: ‘You’re really lucky David, there’s a boy in the academy who’s a really good player, a boy called Wayne Rooney.’”
