Wayne Rooney has discussed his latter stages at Manchester United and has admitted that the players weren’t keen on one manager.
Manchester United have a long list of players considered legendary at the club, but nobody is considered higher than Wayne Rooney.
The clubs record goalscorer with 253, he’s forever etched into the history of this great club.
But despite all the good years, Rooney also has some less happy memories of being at United, with the years post Sir Alex Ferguson being little in comparison.
Now, he’s shed light onto why he thinks one of these former bosses failed at United.

Wayne Rooney makes admission on David Moyes
Speaking on Stick to the Football, Rooney discussed a range of different things. This included his verdict on the managers who followed Sir Alex’s footsteps.
Roy Keane quizzed Rooney on David Moyes, asking if the players just hadn’t given Moyes a chance, to which he replied: “No.”
“I think it was always going to be difficult for him and I know David from when he was at Everton and he wasn’t the same as when he was at Everton, so I think it was a massive change for him as well”
Rooney then continued to explain that United’s more senior players just weren’t keen on Moyes from the beginning.
“The more senior players just weren’t having him and that was very difficult for him.
“Moyes is really hands-on like with everything in terms of which way the bus goes to the game and stuff like that, on the training pitch he’s really hands-on which was a big difference for the players as well in terms of the manager, some days you mightn’t see him on the training pitch.”
David Moyes was handed an impossible job
Now we’ve seen Moyes succeed at West Ham, with European glory to his name – something West Ham likely thought previously unattainable – it makes it clear that he was handed an impossible job.
Anyone who replaced such a long term figure was going to struggle and unlikely to succeed due to the massive change it was from Sir Alex.
Although that being said, choosing Moyes for that impossible job wasnt the right way to go about things as a manager who commanded respect from the group of winners wouldve been a much smarter move by United.
Someone in the mould of a Jose Mourinho or Pep Guardiola may have stood a better chance of avoiding the problems which Moyes faced.
