Sir Alex Ferguson showered praise on the impact that one Manchester United legend had at Old Trafford during his exchange with a Manchester United Women star.
The 82-year-old Scotsman has remained an ever-present figure at Manchester United long after his retirement from the Old Trafford dugout.
Sir Alex Ferguson bowed out of management in 2013 after the Red Devils successfully captured their last Premier League title in the 2012-13 season.
The iconic Scot had a long-lasting impact on football after his dominance over the Premier League, with Ferguson engineering all 13 of United’s league title wins.
Ferguson is widely considered one of the best managers of all time after his remarkable spells with United in England and with Aberdeen in Scotland.

Ferguson on Man Utd legend’s influence
Sir Alex Ferguson shared a heartfelt moment with Manchester United Women star Maya Le Tissier after she ascended to the club captaincy.
Maya Le Tissier, who was signed from Brighton Women in 2022, inherited the captain’s armband after Katie Zelem left the Red Devils in the summer.
Katie Zelem had been a mainstay in the United Women team after the Red Devils reintroduced their women’s side for the 2018-19 campaign.
The 28-year-old former United Women captain left the club at the end of the 2023-24 Women’s Super League campaign and signed for US-based side Angel City.
Ferguson paid tribute to Le Tissier’s milestone by singling out Manchester United legend Bryan Robson, who is the club’s longest-serving captain in history.
“Well, Maya, may I congratulate you on this wonderful achievement,” he said, as per Manchester United’s official X account.
“You have a responsibility to show your character for everyone. And to me, responsibility is taking charge of a great club. And I think that everyone would be delighted that you’ve got this responsibility to do that.
“And you’ve been here a few years, it’s not new to you. And I think over the years if you look at, okay, from the men’s point of view, we had some great captains.
“One’s here today, Bryan Robson. Fantastic captain and he had that great driving force about him that players respond to. And I think you can do that without a question.”
Le Tissier’s response to Ferguson
Ella Toone was named vice-captain for United Women in August ahead of Marc Skinner’s ladies beginning their 2024-25 Women’s Super League season.
Maya Le Tissier was in awe at the praise from Ferguson and admitted that it was an “honour” to captain United after Katie Zelem’s departure.
“It’s an honour to captain your club and I’ll do everything I can do to put us back to winning ways,” she said.
