Wayne Rooney has set the record straight over his feelings towards Ruben Amorim after Manchester United’s 2-0 Premier League win vs Sunderland at Old Trafford.

The 39-year-old legendary former Manchester United striker has not been afraid to pull any punches towards the Red Devils over their run of form this season.

Wayne Rooney was deeply critical of United last month after the Red Devils suffered a 3-1 Premier League defeat to Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Joining Rooney at the time with the criticism of United was Gary Neville, who was equally frustrated with the Red Devils’ poor showing against Brentford in September.

Ruben Amorim hit back at Rooney and Neville over their criticisms ahead of United’s important win against Sunderland in the Premier League clash at Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim watched from the Old Trafford dugout as the Red Devils returned to winning ways on Saturday, following Manchester United’s defeat to Brentford.

Goals from Mason Mount and Benjamin Sesko in the first half put United 2-0 up against Sunderland going into the half-time break in the Premier League clash.

Sunderland were unable to rally back against United on the weekend and the Red Devils comfortably sealed all three Premier League points at the full-time whistle.

Speaking to Sky Sports at the Legends of Football event in London on Monday, Rooney admitted that United played well under Amorim against Sunderland.

“A good result at the weekend,” he said.

“A high-pressure game for the manager, the players, the club and I thought they played really well, [they were] efficient.”

Amorim has received a reprieve from the criticism that he has faced in recent weeks, but the pressure could immediately pile back on him depending on the Liverpool result.

The 40-year-old United manager faces a tough first test back after the October break, with the Red Devils travelling to Anfield for their Premier League clash.

Rooney said that he is hopeful that Amorim can put momentum back on his side at United, but he has warned the Portuguese coach about the need to secure results.

“I want and do hope that Amorim does well and the form turns around,” he continued.

“As I’ve said, he’s a fantastic young manager, but if you’re not getting results, the pressure is going to come on you. I really do hope he turns it around.”

United are 10th in the Premier League table and Liverpool are second ahead of the two sides meeting in their huge showdown at Anfield on 19th October.
