Wayne Rooney praises Harry Maguire

The praise for Harry Maguire continued on social media, with England teammates Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice reaching out to praise the match winner.

There was more too, with Manchester United all time record goalscorer Wayne Rooney reaching out.

Rooney sent three clapping emojis in response to Maguire’s Instagram post, showing his respect for the defender.

There was another supportive message from Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger, who paid his respect towards a fellow centre-back.

Rooney a fan of Maguire

Wayne Rooney is a big fan of the former Hull and Leicester centre-back, making a point to praise him during the World Cup last year.

He told  The Times at the time: “The biggest positive of all so far is the performance — across both games — of Harry Maguire.

“He was England’s standout player on Friday and had an excellent game against Iran, showing the quality on the ball, sound defending and unmistakable threat at set pieces that makes him so important to the team.”

It was Maguire’s powerful header which proved to be Copenhagen’s undoing on Tuesday night, even if he was beaten to Manchester United’s fan voted man of the match award by Andre Onana, following his injury time penalty save.
