Manchester United and England icon Wayne Rooney could not put himself ahead of one fellow Premier League legend when it comes to who is the better striker.

Wayne Rooney is Manchester United’s all-time leading scorer and the 39-year-old ex-forward is widely regarded as one of the best strikers in Premier League history.

Sir Alex Ferguson brought United’s record scorer to Old Trafford in 2004 after the Red Devils splashed out a deal worth £27m to sign Rooney from Everton.

Rooney had a superb spell at United and the ex-Red Devils star lifted five Premier Leagues, a Champions League, a Europa League, an FA Cup and three League Cups.

The former United and England striker scored a whopping 253 times and picked up an impressive 141 assists in 559 matches during his stunning run at the Red Devils.

Rooney’s illustrious playing spell at Old Trafford ended in 2017 and the United legend made his return to boyhood club Everton for a brief second spell.

Man Utd and England legend Wayne Rooney makes his feelings clear on three fellow former strikers

Speaking to The Daily Mail, Wayne Rooney took part in a segment on TikTok where the former Manchester United captain picked out the best player out of two names.

Rooney put himself ahead of ex-United teammate Robin van Persie before picking Premier League legend Alan Shearer ahead of Manchester City star Erling Haaland.

Thierry Henry beat Harry Kane in Rooney’s picks and Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero knocked former Barcelona striker Luis Suarez out of the striker bracket.

Rooney then selected himself ahead of Alan Shearer before Arsenal legend Thierry Henry dumped Sergio Aguero out, which set up his final choice to make.

However, the former England captain didn’t think twice about putting Henry ahead of him, with the ex-Arsenal and Barcelona striker coming out on top.

What Arsenal icon Thierry Henry said about Man Utd legend Wayne Rooney is a real eye-opener

Thierry Henry crossed paths with Rooney when the United legend was making a name for himself as a teenager and he was blown away by what he saw from him.

“We’d heard there was this young kid at Everton who was going to score goals and had the body of a man,” he said, as per The Sun in 2022.

“But when I saw him, it was, ‘Whoa! How old is he? 16?’ You looked at his body and you could see the power just see him walking.

“You knew he wanted to succeed, he wanted to destroy everything that was in front of him.”

Rooney saw out the tail end of his legendary playing career at DC United and Derby County before he retired in 2021 and went straight into football management.
