Paul Scholes has insisted that Ruben Amorim will be well aware of the reality facing one thing during his early reign as Manchester United manager at Old Trafford.
Ruben Amorim is on the verge of seeing out the rest of Manchester United’s lacklustre 2024-25 Premier League season after his arrival at Old Trafford in 2024.
The 40-year-old United manager left his native homeland last November and his reign at Sporting CP came to an end after he replaced Erik ten Hag in the dugout.
Former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag was sacked as United manager last October after the Red Devils’ disastrous start to the 2024-25 Premier League campaign.
Amorim has seen both the highs and lows during his time at United so far this season, including both on the Europa League front and in the Premier League.
United have been unable to turn around their Premier League form under Amorim and they languish in 14th place in the table with only four league matches left.
The Red Devils have suffered 15 league defeats alone in the 2024-25 season and United are on course for their worst finish ever in the Premier League era.

Paul Scholes argues Ruben Amorim is well aware of the truth about Man Utd’s season, despite the Red Devils’ Europa League run
Manchester United’s season now hinges on the remainder of their Europa League campaign, with the Red Devils reaching the semi-finals of the competition.
The Red Devils will face Athletic Club in the last four across two separate legs after United knocked Lyon out of the Europa League in the quarter-finals.
The Europa League is United’s only real hope of securing European football for the 2025-26 campaign and a return back to the Champions League.
Ruben Amorim could also lift his first piece of major silverware as United manager in the 2024-25 season if the Red Devils can lift the Europa League trophy in Bilbao.
Speaking in a column for TNT Sports, Paul Scholes suggested that “Amorim knows that” winning the Europa League trophy “will not save” United’s lacklustre season.
“Man Utd have been a disaster in the Premier League this year,” he said.
“It’s been really difficult to watch and again it was difficult once more against Bournemouth. The Europa League has given them a little bit of life.
“Winning it will not save their season because the Premier League is your bread and butter and that’s where you’ll be judged, and I think Amorim knows that.
“There’s a bit of light at the end of the tunnel with the Europa League for the fans especially.
“They’ve got a tough game against Athletic Club as they’re one of the better teams left in the competition. I think being at home in the second leg helps them.”
Paul Scholes’ true feelings on Man Utd’s showdown with Athletic Club in the Europa League semi-finals
United will travel to the San Mames Stadium on Thursday evening in Bilbao for their first-leg Europa League semi-final clash against La Liga outfit Athletic Club.
Scholes believes that the Red Devils will benefit from the prospect of playing their crucial second-leg Europa League tie at Old Trafford instead of travelling away.
“If they were away in the second leg, I think they’d really struggle to get through, but if they can go over there and get a result, then the crowd at Old Trafford in that second leg can really get you through,” he continued.
“You wouldn’t be putting your money on them and calling them favourites to win it because of how inconsistent they are, but out of the four teams, they’ve got as good a chance as any of them.”
United will host Athletic Club for the second-leg Europa League semi-final tie on 8th May, with a place in the final hanging in the balance.
