Paul Scholes would ‘put money’ on Man Utd not pulling off one important feat before another Premier League club

Paul Scholes has sent Manchester United a brutal reality check over their current situation after comparing the Red Devils with one rival Premier League club.

The 50-year-old Red Devils legend was part of the last Manchester United team to lift the Premier League title for the club back in the 2012-13 campaign.

Sir Alex Ferguson led the Red Devils to all 13 of their Premier League trophies before the iconic former United manager called it time on his remarkable career in 2013.

Paul Scholes is widely regarded as one of the best Premier League players of all time and one of the best midfielders in the history of football.

The former United midfielder initially retired from football in 2011 before he made a U-turn and returned to Old Trafford as a player in 2012 under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Scholes rose through the ranks of the United youth academy and the ex-England international spent his entire legendary playing career with the Red Devils.

One of United’s famed ‘Class of ‘92’ members, Scholes lifted 11 Premier League titles, two Champions League trophies, three FA Cups and two League Cups.

Paul Scholes couldn’t be clearer about the Premier League divide between Man Utd and Liverpool

Paul Scholes’ illustrious Manchester United playing career ended in 2013 and the Red Devils have struggled since Sir Alex Ferguson bowed out of Old Trafford.

United have been unable to climb back to the top of English football and Ruben Amorim is the sixth permanent manager at United since Ferguson’s reign ended.

Liverpool pulled level with rivals United for most league titles won (at 20 apiece) after the Reds captured the Premier League trophy in the current season.

Arne Slot’s men dismantled Tottenham in a 5-1 thumping win at Anfield on Sunday and Liverpool ensured their place as English champions in the 2024-25 campaign.

Speaking in his column for TNT Sports, United legend Scholes claimed that he would “put money” on Liverpool winning the title again before United even challenge for it.

“They looked like the best team in the league for me,” he said.

“Nobody else got anywhere near them, so you have to admire them for that. When I retired, Liverpool were only two league titles behind us, so you knew there was always a possibility of it happening, and the way things are now, you’d put money on Liverpool winning it again before Man Utd do.”

What Paul Scholes saw from Liverpool vs Man Utd at Old Trafford in the 2024-25 Premier League season

Liverpool comfortably beat United 3-0 at Old Trafford in the Premier League last September and Scholes was impressed with what he saw from Arne Slot’s side.

“I actually thought Liverpool would have a chance of winning the league when I saw them playing at Old Trafford back in September,” Scholes said.

“I know that Manchester United aren’t in the best shape, but I was really impressed by what I saw from Liverpool.”

United are on course for their worst finish in the Premier League era and the Red Devils languish in 14th place with only four league matches remaining.
