Wayne Rooney’s documentary is released today (11/2) on Amazon Prime and it looks like a real treat for Manchester United fans.
Rooney has been doing various media interviews in the build-up to the release of the documentary, and one particular anecdote has drawn a lot of attention.
The former United striker’s admission he deliberately injured John Terry has made big headlines, and probably would have left Rooney in a lot more hot water if it wasn’t, well… John Terry.
The tackle came in a Premier League clash at the end of 2006 between United and Chelsea.

The match was an end of season game in which Chelsea won 1-0 to clinch the title. Rooney was understandably angry, showing a bit of passion and fight the current players don’t.
Rooney told The Mail: “For that game I changed them [my studs] to big, long metal ones – the maximum length you could have because I wanted to try and hurt someone, try and injure someone.
“I knew they were going to win that game. You could feel they were a better team at the time so I changed my studs.
“The studs were legal but thinking if there’s a challenge there I knew I’d want to go in for it properly, basically. I did actually.
“John Terry left the stadium on crutches. I left a hole in his foot and then I signed my shirt to him after the game.
“A few weeks later I sent it to him and asked for my stud back. If you look back when they were celebrating, JT’s got his crutches from that tackle.”
Terry has laughed off the comments, feeling no ill-will towards his England teammate 16 years on.
The FA have since been in contact with Rooney, Sky Sports report, to seek a full explanation for his comments. It is possible he could be hit with a fine.
There was a twist for Rooney, as this was the game he suffered a metatarsal injury himself, which blunted his impact at the 2006 World Cup.
If there was one positive to come from it, we can joke that Terry was never the same since, and the injury may have caused him to to slip off balance on the Moscow turf when taking his penalty in 2008. Perhaps.
