Manchester United rolled out the red carpet as Ruben Amorim made his entrance to Old Trafford.
Ineos’ chiefs were on hand to greet Ruben Amorim as he arrived in Manchester to begin work as head coach of the Red Devils.
In doing so, Amorim left behind a Sporting team sitting top of the league and riding high in the Champions League too.
Amorim admitted that star midfielder Pedro ‘Pote’ Goncalves was a little angry with him for leaving mid-season.

Viktor Gyokeres not angry
If Sporting’s star striker Viktor Gyokeres is angry with Ruben Amorim, he is not showing it.
After Amorim’s introductory pictures emerged at Manchester United, Gyokeres sent his own message out.
He posted a picture of himself sat alongside Amorim, smiling, with the message, ‘Thank you for everything mister’.
Gyokeres to United remains in play
Viktor Gyokeres has become one of Europe’s most in-demand strikers since joining Sporting to play under Amorim.
Gyokeres scored 66 goals in 68 games in all competitions, including a stunning hat-trick against Manchester City last week.
That had Manchester United fans salivating, wondering if Amorim would be making a quick call to his now former employers to sign the striker.
For now, that has to wait. Amorim has pledged not to sign a single Sporting player in January and is a man of his word.
Next summer is a different matter, when Gyokeres has an agreement with Sporting to leave for approximately £63 million, below his £85 million release clause. Sporting’s president admits he cannot keep him long-term.
It’s less than United paid for Rasmus Hojlund, and if the Dane cannot turn into Gyokeres between now and the end of the season, Amorim might just go out and buy the real one.
