Andreas Pereira scores stunning long-range free-kick for Flamengo

Manchester United loanee Andreas Pereira continues to take the Brazilian league by storm and he scored a stunning long-range free-kick in Flamengo’s latest win last night.

With Flamengo already 2-0 up against Juventude at the Maracana Stadium, in the 35th minute, Pereira struck a venomous, dipping free-kick from over 30 yards out which left the goalkeeper with no chance and went into the back of the net via the crossbar.

The 25-year-old loves a wonder strike and he scored a belter in pre-season against Brentford which was similar to Paul Scholes’ strike at Villa Park in 2006.

With Pereira having aspirations of breaking into the Brazilian national team ahead of next winter’s World Cup in Qatar, his latest goal may have caught the attention of Brazil coach Tite.

Playing in the attacking midfield role, according to WhoScored, Pereira won man of the match as his team went on to win 3-1.

It meant that Flamengo maintained their pursuit of leaders Atletico MG who also won last night.

Pereira finished the match with 75 touches and created four chances, no player created more.

Alongside his wondergoal, the one-time Brazil international hit the woodwork twice and completed both of his attempted dribbles.

He also completed 44 of his 49 attempted passes (90%), which included all four of his attempted long balls.

He won seven ground duels, made three tackles and one interception in another commanding display.

Hopefully, if Pereira continues to produce the goods for his loan side, it could convince Flamengo to find the £10m from somewhere to make him a permanent signing.

He now has three goals and one assist from eight league matches and will be targeting more.

Pereira’s confidence will be sky high after that incredible free-kick and he will be eager to kick on and his importance in this Flamengo side will likely continue to grow.
