Manchester United’s interest in Donny van de Beek continues to build, with reports across Europe linking the Red Devils with a deal.

The Guardian reports United are hopeful of completing a deal for the Dutch international.

Van de Beek was left out of Ajax’s squad for their friendly on Saturday afternoon.

Spanish newspaper SPORT, which followed the developments from a Barcelona perspective, claim Van de Beek has told his Ajax teammates he is joining United.

The report claims he will travel to Manchester this coming week to seal a move.

Ajax had another friendly today (Sunday), and Van de Beek was not involved, with Fox Sports Netherlands reporting he was training alone.

A second move?

Also bubbling under is reported interest from Manchester United in Thiago Alcantara.

Dagbladet’s Norwegian journalist Frederik Fildvedt reported United are ready to compete with Liverpool for the Spanish international. This was in turn backed up by BILD’s Christian Falk.

While it seems fanciful United could sign two top class midfielders, the idea should not be dismissed.

Thiago and Van de Beek are the best two midfielders available on the market and while midfield is a position where United have options already, you can never have enough, especially when a top option like Thiago can be bought.

There is a strong possibility however that Bayern are using United to create a bidding war or put pressure on Liverpool. We have seen this so many times before.

While the links appear to come from credible sources, this appears more speculative, whereas with Van de Beek, it feels as though something is actually happening and this deal could go through in the next week.

It’s hard not to get carried away, but we would advise caution. As United fans have learned with transfers, seeing is believing.
