Dundee United held Rangers to a draw on Sunday, but in the battle of two Manchester United loanees, there was only one winner.
Dylan Levitt’s Dundee United were far happier with the point than Amad’s Rangers, who were left disappointed with the draw.
After their high of beating Borussia Dortmund 4-2 away from home in the Europa League, Rangers were brought back down to earth with a thud in the Scottish Premiership.
United loanee Levitt provided the assist as the Tangerines went 1-0 up, doing what most Red Devils players have been unable to do before this weekend, provide an accurate delivery from a corner.
Levitt’s pinpoint corner kick connected with teammate Ross Graham who gave his side an unlikely lead, and from there it was about digging in and defending their lead.
Joe Aribo eventually scored a second half equaliser to tie the game at 1-1, but Rangers were unable to go on and score a winner.
Levitt played all 90 minutes, creating two goalscoring chances in the draw, in which Dundee United held only 25 per cent possession.
The Wales international worked hard for his side, making eight ball recoveries, two clearances, and one interception, also drawing one foul.
The 21-year-old did not get as much time in possession as he would have liked, but he will feel pretty happy to have helped his side claim a point.
Amad blows late chance
Amad was on the bench for Rangers before coming on in the 73rd minute, and he had an eventful and mixed afternoon as his side poured forward.
He was involved in the equaliser although probably won’t get the credit for it. His diagonal off-ball run across the penalty box drew two defenders with him and created space for Ryan Kent to cross into Joe Aribo to score.
There was then a confusing moment where he thought he heard an offside whistle, left the ball when he could have crossed it, and wasted an opportunity to build an attack.
But there was worse ahead for Amad as he sprung the offside trap for a one on one, probably had a touch too many, and then crashed the ball against the post.
Amad should have tested the goalkeeper or even squared it, and this ended up as Rangers’ best chance to grab a late winner.
The teenager would have liked to show a bit more composure and will be disappointed with his shot, and the chance to force his way into Rangers starting line-up against Dortmund probably passed him by with his miss.
