Under-18 teammates compare Alejandro Garnacho to Ronaldo after latest FA Youth Cup strike
Alejandro Garnacho rarely fails to impress when in action for Manchester United’s academy teams. After scoring a bicycle kick in the FA Youth Cup third round, he added a solo goal to remember last night in the fifth round.
Garnacho’s goal was reminiscent of Gareth Bale’s famous El Clasico strike in the Copa del Rey, when he ran off the pitch while outpacing an opponent on the way to netting a rapid counter attacking goal.
The 17-year-old United prospect stayed on the pitch for his goal against Everton, running 70 yards in the 90th minute before cutting inside to score a well-taken fourth goal in the win over Everton.
The former Atletico Madrid talent’s goal was one any player would have been proud of, and he topped it off with a Cristiano Ronaldo ‘Siu’ celebration in honour of his idol.
Garnacho’s goal was celebrated by United’s players on social media, who kept up the Ronaldo comparisons.
United’s players show appreciation
United won the game 4-1, with Garnacho’s goal adding to strikes from Charlie McNeill (penalty), Kobbie Mainoo, and Sam Mather.
The victory moves United’s under-18s side into the FA Youth Cup quarter-finals, where the team are back at Old Trafford to host Leicester City.
Centre-back Rhys Bennett captained the side and he was keen to praise the team’s attacking players.
Bennett told MUTV: “The front three or four were on fire, unbelievale finishing taking their chances.
“It is amazing feeling to come out at Old Trafford with the captain’s armband.”
United are moving closer to winning a first FA Youth Cup since 2011. There is still a lot of work to do, but this was a strong, confident performance of a composed and well-drilled team laced with moments of individual magic. There is no reason why this team can’t go all the way.
