Manchester United’s English World Cup duo of Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo have been told when to arrive for pre-season training.

Marcus Rashford is set for a highly-anticipated return to Manchester United under Michael Carrick after leaving to play for Barcelona on loan last season.

The 2026 World Cup has now concluded with England finishing in third place. Kobbie Mainoo did not play a single minute, while Rashford was rotated in and out of the line-up by Thomas Tuchel.

Both Carrington graduates will now be afforded a summer break before joining up with the rest of the United squad in pre-season training.

Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo will join Dublin trip

United’s 2026 pre-season started with a 1-0 defeat to Wrexham in Helsinki last weekend. Next up is a trip to Norway to face Rosenborg.

The tour of Europe continues with a match against Atletico Madrid in Stockholm on August 1, and a clash against PSG in Gothenburg on August 8.

Following that, United travel to Dublin, and The Athletic claim that this is when Rashford and Mainoo will join up with Carrick’s squad.

United face rivals Leeds United at Croke Park on August 12, and that is when supporters could get a first glance at Rashford back in red.

The 2026/27 Premier League season kicks off exactly 10 days later with United travelling to newly-promoted Hull City on matchweek one.

Kobbie Mainoo’s injury will not impact pre-season

Mainoo missed England’s third-place playoff against France in the World Cup because of a back injury.

Tuchel confirmed Mainoo’s injury after the match, and theories began spreading that the United midfielder purposefully did not want to play.

The good news for United is that Mainoo’s injury is minor and it is not expected to continue into pre-season.

The 21-year-old is expected to be fully fit and ready to play when he joins up with Carrick’s squad in Ireland next month.
