Manchester United have pulled off two majorly impressive deals this transfer window already, with Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane heading in.
It does mean there may only be limited funds available to strengthen further, with the club needing to sell in order to buy, The Express report.
It would make practical sense on United’s part to attempt to get creative, and try to engineer swap or player plus cash deals. These are hard to do, but the infamous Alexis Sanchez for Henrikh Mkhitaryan swap shows they are possible, even if that one had awful results for both clubs.
Here is a look at three potential deals United could attempt to try over the final month of the window…
Yves Bissouma for cash plus James Garner loan
This deal makes so much sense for Manchester United. Hopefully Brighton might feel the same way.
A straight up cash move for Yves Bissouma is tempting enough to solve United’s dilemma for a more defensive minded midfielder. Bissouma was absolutely outstanding against United at Old Trafford earlier this year.
Having cashed in on Ben White already, money alone may not motivate Brighton so highly. Landing an instant replacement on loan in James Garner could help the deal along.
Garner needs a Premier League loan and Brighton are an ideal club where he could play regularly. Manager Graham Potter has won plaudits for playing football the right way and Garner could ask for a more ideal club to join for the season.
Kieran Trippier for Diogo Dalot
A solution in pursuit of Kieran Trippier could be to offer a straight swap with Diogo Dalot, a deal where everybody would win.
United would get the experienced back-up for Aaron Wan-Bissaka they want, while Atletico would land a young player who has a lot of potential to replace a player who no longer wants to be there.
Dalot could thrive and learn and improve defensively playing under Diego Simeone. Trippier could get the return to England he wants too.
United could have to throw in a bit of cash too to smooth an agreement along, but this feels like a fair solution for all parties.
First option secured on Haaland for two-year Amad loan
OK here is an ambitious one, but why not have the conversation about it with Dortmund any way?
Dortmund are set to lose Erling Haaland next summer when his release clause becomes active. It is reported to be around £65 million and there will be a huge clamour for his signature.
So Dortmund would have nothing to lose by agreeing to give United first option to activate the clause and negotiate with Haaland early, to prevent other clubs sneaking in ahead of them and doing a deal on the quiet.
The trade-off would be sending out Amad on loan for one or even two years to develop in Germany, the first year he would get to play alongside Haaland. This could benefit Amad as he would play more regularly, and return to United as a stronger player.
