Three Man Utd stars told to ‘absolutely’ step up for huge role with Bruno Fernandes, one has ‘unbelievable experience’

Manchester United legend Bryan Robson “definitely” thinks that three first-team players under Ruben Amorim have a key role to play alongside Bruno Fernandes.

Bruno Fernandes has already faced early criticism in the 2025-26 campaign after playing in a deeper role in Ruben Amorim’s tactical system for Manchester United.

The 30-year-old United captain has been Amorim’s preferred pick in the midfield pivot, with former Real Madrid star Casemiro often partnered alongside him.

Fernandes has struggled to command the same influence from deep within midfield compared to playing in one of the two No 10 roles under Amorim.

The Portugal international has been shifted to the middle of the park for the 2025-26 season after United signed Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo in the summer.

Bryan Robson reveals what two of Ruben Amorim’s Man Utd players can offer Bruno Fernandes on the pitch

Bruno Fernandes was linked with Al Hilal in the summer, but the Red Devils skipper opted to remain at Old Trafford and turned down the Saudi Pro League club.

The former Sporting CP star has remained an influential presence in the United first-team squad, including his role as club captain under United manager Ruben Amorim.

Speaking on Fernandes, legendary former United captain Bryan Robson admitted that the Portugal midfielder needs to see more “leaders” emerge alongside him.

The 68-year-old United legend singled out both Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt for what they can offer to Fernandes on the pitch as leadership-type figures.

When asked about seeing more players as leaders at Old Trafford, Robson told the ‘United! United! United!’ YouTube channel: “Yeah, absolutely, definitely.

“You can see it on the pitch that people need to, people like De Ligt from the back and then Harry Maguire [is] obviously like a good leader, good captain [former now], but he hasn’t really played this season so far.

“But people like them, they’re leaders.”

Man Utd legend Bryan Robson sends a huge message to Casemiro about Portugal star Bruno Fernandes

Casemiro has retained his influence under Amorim and remains a regular starter at the Red Devils after entering the final 12 months of his United contract.

The 33-year-old Brazilian midfielder was linked with an Old Trafford exit in the summer and Casemiro has been on the transfer radar of a Saudi Pro League club.

Robson picked out Casemiro alongside Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt and believes that the midfielder’s “unbelievable experience” could help out Fernandes.

“And then Casemiro has got unbelievable experience, so Case [sic] has got to do it as well,” he continued.

“You know, so I think they’re all taking on board what is needed. I’m sure they do a lot better this season.”

United will return to Premier League action on 14th September for the first Manchester derby of the new season, with Manchester City hosting the Red Devils.
