Manchester United could change the 10 outfield players against Tottenham this weekend and there would be few complaints from fans.
The team were absolutely terrible against Liverpool, and the match against Leicester before that.
So there will surely be changes, but don’t expect Solskjaer to go quite the whole way and switch 10 outfield players.
One change Solskjaer absolutely has to make in attack should come on the right wing.
Greenwood out
The big surprise against Liverpool was how naive Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was, starting the same side which he picked against Atalanta days earlier.
Drilling down on that, it was most surprising that he kept Greenwood in the team.
Greenwood was ineffective against Atalanta, failing to record a single shot at goal or create a single chance.
United were too lop-sided, almost playing a 4-2-4, and repeated the same error against Liverpool.
Greenwood is a forward at heart, playing on the right, and it has shown in recent matches.
If anyone from United’s front three of Rashford, Ronaldo, and Greenwood is to drop out then it should be the latter.
While Greenwood has enjoyed a strong start to the season, netting four goals in all competitions, the balance of the team may be better with an alternate option on the right side.
Sancho in
United paid a lot of money for Jadon Sancho, and so at this point, Solskjaer needs to commit to him.
The idea when Sancho signed was predominantly for him to play on the right wing. He has struggled to get chances there so far.
At this point United need to get on board with this plan and give Sancho playing time on the right at Greenwood’s expense.
Sancho is more of a natural winger than Greenwood and will do the work required of him defensively.
This week Sancho was harshly criticised for his slow start to the season by Sky Germany, and along with United’s defeat to Liverpool, he will be determined to spark a recovery and kick on.
Solskjaer’s job is on the line, and he has waited two years to have Sancho available.
It is time to play him, and put his trust in the young winger. It might just work.
