Manchester United have a short wait before Ruben Amorim is confirmed as the new manager.

There was only one name on Ineos’ mind after Erik ten Hag was sacked at Manchester United, and they have now got their man.

There were plenty of potential replacements for Ten Hag for United’s leaders to consider, but 39-year-old Ruben Amorim was the first-choice target.

Before the dust had settled around Ten Hag’s exit, United chiefs flew out to Portugal to finalise a deal with Sporting Lisbon for Amorim.

There was some confusion around Amorim’s release clause, but it has been confirmed that United will pay €10m (£8.3m) to appoint the Portuguese manager, as well as a small fee to bring his backroom staff with him to Manchester.

When Ruben Amorim will take charge of Man United

United’s leadership hatched an ambitious plan for Amorim’s debut to take place on Sunday afternoon against Chelsea, but that will not be the case.

Instead, Amorim is set to take charge of United during the November international break, meaning Ruud van Nistelrooy will stay for three matches.

United’s interim manager led the Red Devils to a 5-2 victory over Leicester City on Wednesday evening and Van Nistelrooy will now have another week and a half in charge before handing over the keys to Amorim.

It means that Amorim will make his debut against Ipswich Town on November 24th, where he will face a former Man United coach in Kieran McKenna.

Ruben Amorim prepares to break silence on becoming Man United manager

Many United fans tuned in to Sporting Lisbon’s 3-1 win over Nacional on Tuesday evening believing it could be Amorim’s farewell match in Portugal.

However, he kept his cards close to his chest with his post-match comments and insisted there was “nothing to say”.

Amorim is set to take charge again of Sporting on Friday evening against Estrela Amadora, and this time he has promised that he will speak out about the United job.

As quoted by the Daily Mail, Amorim was speaking to the media ahead of Friday’s match and he promised to talk after the match had finished.

“I know they made a trip to come here to talk about this, and it’s natural, but we’ll leave that for the end of the game.

“At the end of the game I’ll talk about all these issues. Now I want the team to focus and so do I.

“I promise I’ll talk at the end of the game and everything will be clearer.”
