Sky Sports reporter shares Sporting prediction about Ruben Amorim at Manchester United as big comparison made

Manchester United are pushing to appoint Sporting coach Ruben Amorim following the departure of Erik ten Hag earlier this week.

Erik ten Hag was sacked by Manchester United on Monday, less than 24 hours after a 2-1 defeat at West Ham United.

Ineos kept hold of Ten Hag over the summer and backed him with a number of summer signings to improve his United squad.

The results and performances still weren’t good enough though and Ten Hag has been given his marching orders.

Thomas Frank was linked with United but Ineos have decided to look a little further afield for Ten Hag’s replacement.

Portuguese side Sporting have confirmed United’s approach for Ruben Amorim and he is thoroughly expected to become United boss very soon.

Sporting view on Ruben Amorim

Sporting – rather unsurprisingly – aren’t exactly keen to let Amorim go.

Amorim’s players have confronted him about a move to United whilst we have even seen Sporting fans in tears about Amorim’s exit.

Amorim has won two league title for Sporting since arriving from Braga in 2020, establishing himself as one of the top young managers in the game.

Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol has now taken to social media to offer some insight into how Sporting feel about Amorim.

Solhekol claims that Sporting believe Amorim is the ‘new Special One’, making comparisons towards Jose Mourinho.

It’s added that Sporting are ‘convinced’ that Amorim is going to be a success at United, predicting

Sporting sources have told Solhekol that Amorim is ‘extremely strict’ and will not tolerate any nonsense from his players.

Amorim’s ‘strict work ethic’ was mentioned too with a ‘demanding’ approach to training suggested.

That mantra has worked out well for Sporting given their two league titles, but whether Amorim can sell that to the United players remains to be seen.

Amorim style very different to Mourinho

Fans now hear comparisons to Mourinho and treat that as a negative.

Mourinho may have fallen from his world-class heights, but it’s important to remember just how much Mourinho achieved.

Mourinho’s work at Porto, Chelsea and Inter Milan was exceptional and he also guided United to a Europa League trophy in 2017.

That would be a successful season for United this term, so we shouldn’t overlook his successes.

Fans want free-flowing, attacking football and Mourinho certainly doesn’t offer that, so comparisons concern supporters.

Amorim’s teams score plenty of goals though, spearheaded by striker Viktor Gyokeres.

Sporting goal difference under Amorim (league statistics)

Goal difference isn’t the be all and end all but United remarkably finished last season with a goal difference of -1.

United’s goal difference this term is now -3 and goals have been incredibly hard to come by.

Amorim will look to sort this out and get United clicking in the final third once again – and live up to the Mourinho comparisons in terms of silverware.
