Donny van de Beek’s immiment move to Manchester United has sparked some bizarre thinking in the media.
According to Danny Murphy of Talksport, it means Paul Pogba is set to leave.
Murphy said: “I’m just thinking about where Van de Beek is going to play…
“Playing with Fernandes and Pogba? Do you really think that?
“Do you know what I think? I think that Pogba could be off. That signing to me says Pogba is off.”

Pogba is not leaving
Pogba is staying at Manchester United this summer. Even his agent Mino Raiola has accepted this, telling Sky Sports in August that the Frenchman will stay.
No club will be able to afford the Frenchman, and importantly, he is now happy after helping United qualify for the Champions League.
Murphy’s comments are typical of a pundit saying something controversial for the sake of it.
His assessment that Pogba could leave is undercut by his own comments after Manchester United’s Europa League semi-final defeat to Sevilla.
He told Talksport, quoted by The Express: “It’s obvious United, for the last few months, have had to play the majority of the same players to push on to get into the top four, which they achieved.
“They don’t have the strength in depth to be able to rotate and keep players fresh and I thought that showed in the last half hour.”
Those comments perfectly underline why Manchester United have decided to buy Donny van de Beek from Ajax.

Does he get into a first choice midfield of Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, and Bruno Fernandes? Probably not.
But consider Andreas Pereira played more than 2,000 first team minutes in 2019/20, Van de Beek is a valuable upgrade to the current squad.
Murphy’s Pogba comments are laughable. The Frenchman is going nowhere.
