Sir Alex Ferguson has set the record straight over the belief that one Manchester United legend was protected from his personal criticism at Old Trafford.
The 83-year-old legendary former Manchester United manager enjoyed an incredible 26-year reign at Old Trafford during his remarkable management career.
Sir Alex Ferguson is one of the best managers of all time and the iconic Scotsman led United to all 13 of their Premier League titles and two Champions League wins.
The former Red Devils boss hoovered up the major silverware at Old Trafford, including United lifting a famous continental treble under Ferguson in 1999.
During his prolific period in charge at United, Ferguson also captured five FA Cups, four League Cups and a European Cup Winners’ Cup with the Red Devils.
Ferguson bowed out as United manager in 2013 after he announced his retirement, with the Red Devils lifting the Premier League title in the 2012-13 campaign.

Bryan Robson is one Manchester United’s best-ever captains and the 68-year-old United legend had a major impact during his time as the Red Devils’ skipper.
The former United midfielder succeeded Martin Buchan as United captain in 1982 and he is the Red Devils’ longest-serving skipper in the history of the club.
Bryan Robson retained the captain’s armband under Sir Alex Ferguson after the iconic former manager left Scottish side Aberdeen and signed for United in 1986.
Ferguson sat down with Ally McCoist for TNT Sports and the Rangers legend asked the United icon about his former players, including ‘Captain Marvel’ himself, Robson.
Speaking in 2024, Ally McCoist asked Ferguson: “You clearly worked with far and away some of the best, Robbo [Robson], [Eric] Cantona, you mentioned [Carlos] Tevez, obviously [Cristiano] Ronaldo.
“Just unbelievable talent. Did you treat them all the same or within reason, did you have to do things accordingly?”
Ferguson then hilariously revealed to McCoist that people felt that former England international Robson avoided criticism because they thought he was his son.
“Well, everybody thought Robbo was my son because he never got criticised,” he said, with McCoist laughing in response.

Following on from his comments about Bryan Robson, Ferguson opened up to Ally McCoist about the “most important” aspect that he focused on as a manager.
“I don’t really believe that. But anyway, I think the most important thing for me is a manager is to be consistent,” he said.
“So the players, the staff, everybody recognises the man who comes in the door every morning.
“I never changed – I had the same principles all the time, the same discipline code all the time, and the same attitude towards staff in particular all the time.
“I never changed. It made it easier for everybody to feel comfortable with that.”
Robson lifted two Premier League titles, three FA Cups and a European Cup Winners’ Cup with United before he left Old Trafford and signed for Middlesbrough in 1994.
