Scottish media hail ‘outrageous’ Scott McTominay as ex-Man Utd star leads World Cup charge

Manchester United academy graduate Scott McTominay will head to the 2026 World Cup in the summer following a remarkable win over Denmark.

Scott McTominay has not looked back since leaving Manchester United in a £25 million move to Napoli.

The winner of the MVP in the Serie A, McTominay has become a hero for club and country over the past 18 months.

McTominay has starred in Scotland’s World Cup qualifying campaign, and he was in fine form again in a dramatic 4-2 victory over Denmark.

Patrick Dorgu and Rasmus Hojlund scored for the visitors, but it wasn’t enough to fend off McTominay and Co. from booking their flights to the United States in the summer.

Scottish media rave about Scott McTominay display vs Denmark

Just three minutes into Scotland’s crucial qualifying clash against Denmark, McTominay opened the scoring with perhaps the best goal of his career.

The 28-year-old midfielder performed an incredible bicycle kick that soared past Kasper Schmeichel in goal.

Scottish outlet The Herald gave McTominay a match-high 9/10 rating and wrote: “Scored one of the best Scotland goals in history.

“An outrageous overhead kick minutes to set up a truly historic night. Simply magnificent and another chapter on his way to becoming a bona fide Scotland legend.”

The Scottish Sun also piled praise on McTominay for his “unbelievable” goal: “Scotland’s very own Ballon d’Or nominee scores a bicycle kick into the bottom corner!”

McTominay saved his best goal for the big stage, sending Scotland to their first World Cup since 1998.

Ferguson has always been close with McTominay, and his adoration for the Carrington graduate will only grow now that he has helped his nation to the World Cup.
