Ryan Giggs has made his boldest prediction to date for Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United after he admitted that he was ‘serious’ about one claim he made.

Erik ten Hag enjoyed an impressive start to life at Old Trafford after his arrival from Ajax in 2022, with Manchester United lifting the Carabao Cup title last season.

The Dutchman came within touching distance of another piece of major silverware in 2023, only for United to lose 2-1 in the FA Cup final to Manchester City at Wembley.

However, the Red Devils ended the 2022-23 season with a third-place Premier League finish and a return to the Champions League in the current campaign.

United have experienced an up-and-down campaign so far, with Erik ten Hag’s second season at the club delivering a mixed bag of results for the Red Devils.

The Red Devils crashed out of the Champions League after finishing bottom of Group A and their Carabao Cup title defence ended in the round of 16.

Ten Hag also faced an inconsistent set of results in the Premier League earlier this season, effectively dashing any hopes of mounting a successful title challenge.

Giggs’ bold Man Utd prediction

Manchester United have steadied the ship since the start of 2024 and Erik ten Hag’s men are unbeaten since their 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest in late 2023.

The Red Devils have won six of their last seven matches across all competitions, as well as securing four consecutive Premier League wins since the start of February.

Ten Hag’s side have reached the fifth round of the FA Cup and will face Nottingham Forest at City Ground on Wednesday for a place in the quarter-finals.

The United manager is pushing for a top-four Premier League finish this season, with the Red Devils currently sixth and five points off fourth-place Aston Villa.

According to The Daily Mail, Ryan Giggs spoke to an audience at the Crowne Plaza Chester and argued that United could challenge for the league title next season.

The United legend pointed to the changes happening in the Premier League landscape, including Jurgen Klopp’s decision to leave Liverpool this summer.

“I can see them winning the league next year, seriously,” Giggs said.

“Let’s see what happens with City.

“Jurgen Klopp moves. Arsenal haven’t got much money to spend. Stranger things have happened.”

Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants Man Utd’s return to top

Giggs isn’t wrong when he said that stranger things have happened, but there is enough appetite for United to start challenging for league titles again.

United haven’t lifted the Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson bowed out of Old Trafford in 2013, with Giggs being part of the team that captured the trophy.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who has taken control of football operations at United, has echoed his desire to see the Red Devils knock both City and Liverpool “off their perch.”

“We have a lot to learn from our noisy neighbour and the other neighbour,” he said.

“They are the enemy at the end of the day. There is nothing I would like better than to knock both of them off their perch.

“But they have been in a good place for a while and there are things we can learn from both of them.

“They have sensible organisations, great people within the organisations, a good, driven and elite environment that they work in.

“I am very respectful of them but they are still the enemy.”
