Manchester United fans will get a first look at the Ruben Amorim era on Sunday afternoon as the new boss gears up for his Red Devils bow.

The international break is coming to an end and the attention will now turn back to Premier League action.

All eyes will be on Manchester United as Ruben Amorim takes charge for the first time since his move to Old Trafford.

Amorim faces Ipswich Town in his United debut, meaning he will face off against Kieran McKenna at Portman Road.

United appointed Amorim as head coach three weeks ago, so United fans will be excited to finally see his side in action.

Ruben Amorim has brought ‘genius’ to Manchester United

Amorim has been working with his United player this week, though some have been away on international duty and haven’t had a full week under the new boss.

Casemiro and Marcus Rashford enjoyed training this week as United embark on a new era under Amorim.

The Portuguese coach has changed up his coaching staff with Rene Hake and Ruud van Nistelrooy leaving United last week.

Amorim has brought his own staff with him as Carlos Fernandes and Adelio Candido joined United from Sporting.

Both Fernandes and Candido are under 30 and arrive as relative unknowns, but some light has been shed on them ahead of facing Ipswich.

Former Casa Pia sporting director Carlos Pires has told The Athletic that he thinks Candido is a ‘tactical genius’.

Pires brought Candido into the Casa Pia setup at just 19 and has been left blown away by his ‘brilliant mind’, suggesting that he helped Casa Pia come out of a ‘comfort zone.

Pires added that Amorim and Candido are ‘always fighting’ but they love each other, with Candido offering a different perspective to Amorim.

“Ruben loves him but they are always fighting,” said Pires. “He challenges Ruben, he’s always trying to change the point of view because he sees things from another perspective,” he added.

Who is Adelio Candido?

Candido hails from Luanda in Angola but had no real playing career to speak of having turned to coaching at such a young age.

Pires brought Candido to Casa Pia and that saw him work alongside Amorim for the first time.

Candido followed Amorim to Braga and then to Sporting in 2020, working as his assistant manager throughout.

Candido is only 28 but has now been Amorim’s assistant for nearly 250 games across three difficult clubs.

The pair will now work together at United too with Candido set to feature as a key part of Amorim’s plans at Old Trafford.
