Ruben Amorim urges Man Utd fans to put their full confidence in ‘very important player,’ he ‘doesn’t need to say anything’

Ruben Amorim has insisted that one of his first-team Manchester United stars has been left “frustrated and sad,” despite still having unwavering support in him.

The 40-year-old Manchester United manager is looking ahead to the weekend for the next stage of the Red Devils’ FA Cup title defence in the 2024-25 campaign.

United will host Premier League side Fulham at Old Trafford on Sunday, with kick-off for the fifth-round FA Cup tie slated for 4:30pm UK time.

Ruben Amorim’s men reached the fifth round after coming from behind to beat Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Leicester City side 2-1 at Old Trafford earlier this month.

United will head into Sunday’s FA Cup clash with momentum behind them after the Red Devils picked up a 3-2 win over Ipswich Town at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

Amorim singles out Man Utd star

Speaking ahead of the Fulham match, Ruben Amorim was asked about Patrick Dorgu after the Manchester United star was sent off against Ipswich Town.

Patrick Dorgu was United’s first major signing of the Amorim era and the 20-year-old Danish forward arrived at Old Trafford in a deal worth £25m from Lecce.

The ex-Lecce player, whose deal with United includes a further £4.1m in potential add-ons, signed for the Red Devils in February ahead of the window shutting.

Dorgu is built for Amorim’s tactical system and operates as a left-wing back-back, but the United signing is more than capable of playing out on the right.

The Denmark international’s performance against Ipswich was overshadowed by his sending off and his careless back pass to Andre Onana in the opening five minutes.

Andre Onana recklessly charged off his line and a misplaced Dorgu pass went past the United No 1 and Jaden Philogene provided a simple finish for Ipswich.

Dorgu’s display took another ugly turn in the 43rd minute after his poor challenge on Omari Hutchinson led to VAR intervening and later Darren England sending him off.

“It is like business as usual,” Amorim said at his pre-match press conference on Friday, as per the Manchester Evening News.

“Of course, you don’t want him sent off because it is hard to play with 10 men and we lose him for three games. Everything at United is a big issue.

“I don’t need to say anything to him. He is frustrated and sad, but he is working [towards] the next games. He is going to be a very important player for us.”

Amorim on summer transfer window

Amorim is expected to begin overhauling the United squad at the end of the 2024-25 campaign and the United boss talked up the importance of the summer window.

“We need to make some deals to make some deals,” he said.

“We know the situation. We are changing a lot of things in our squad and the academy.

“We are working on a lot of things. We are preparing [for] the next season, for sure.”
