Five things learned as Manchester United beat Leicester 2-1

Manchester United beat Leicester City 2-1 on Friday night in the FA Cup.

Old Trafford endured an atrocious first-half, with Manchester United failing to have a shot on target – which happens far too often at the moment.

United were punished for this display as Leicester took the lead in the 42nd minute.

However, the half-time introduction of Alejandro Garnacho sparked United to life and in the 68th minute he got the Red Devils back into the game with Joshua Zirkzee scoring.

The winner came in Fergie Time through Harry Maguire as he headed home, sending Old Trafford into a rapture.

Here are five things we learned…

Harry Maguire wins it in Fergie Time

Just when it looked like United were set for another 30 minutes, Maguire stepped up.

Amorim has used Fergie Time on numerous occasions this season already and now it’s taken him through to the FA Cup fifth round.

Maguire is becoming one of the most reliable players in the team for Amorim and it’s no surprise he got that new contract.

Alejandro Garnacho changes the game for Manchester United

After the first-half which Roy Keane labelled “boring”, Amorim introduced Garnacho into the fray.

This gave United a spark as he repeatedly terrorised James Justin down the left and this also got the Red Devils back into the game.

Garnacho all but created the equaliser as he put a dangerous ball in before Rasmus Hojlund’s shot deflected to the goal scorer.

One of United’s shining lights. Imagine if he had been sold.

Patrick Dorgu hooked by Ruben Amorim

Amorim handed Patrick Dorgu his debut from the start against Leicester City and yet it only lasted 45 minutes.

Despite being one of United’s best players in the first half, Amorim decided to withdraw his £25m signing at half-time.

It was a slightly bizarre decision, considering Dorgu enjoyed a very solid half, especially when compared to Diogo Dalot on the other side.

Joshua Zirkzee impressive with cameo

It was less than two months ago that Zirkzee’s withdrawal was cheered at Old Trafford – but he looks like a different player right now.

Zirkzee looked sharp in his movement and pressing – winning the ball back multiple times.

Not to mention he got the all-important equalising goal – there could yet be a player there for United.

Ruben Amorim gets it wrong

Contrary to the norm, this performance was on Amorim just as much as any player.

The United head coach surprised everyone by naming Dorgu and Dalot on opposite sides to they would be natural.

As a result – both wing-backs sat far too narrow as their favoured feet meant they’d need to cut inside.

Dalot in particular has been failing in the left wing-back role for months – Amorim needs to change this going forward.
