Manchester United are set to announce the hire of Sporting manager Ruben Amorim over the coming days.

After lots of back and forth over how soon Ruben Amorim will start, it seems the Portuguese manager will begin his role as Manchester United boss after the international break.

Amorim has pledged to speak fully about his new role once it is announced. First he has more matches to complete as Sporting manager.

The two time league winner is highly regarded, the only Sporting boss since the 1950s to win multiple titles for the club.

Understandably, the Sporting fans are upset about losing the services on their most successful modern day manager.

Ruben Amorim responds

There have been pictures of Sporting fans on social media in Portugal in tears, and one brave reporter asked Ruben Amorim if he was aware of the impact he was having.

Portuguese outlet Tabonito reported how Amorim was asked, “Are you aware that you are breaking hearts at this moment?”

Amorim had a near perfect response, when he admitted he shared the pain of his imminent split from Sporting.

And rather than an instant departure, his exit is being drawn out. He admitted: “Especially mine too.”

Amorim then took full responsibility for the sadness being felt, commenting: “I am the one who decides my future.”

He added, via Mais Futebol: “I know it is difficult for everyone.”

Amorim’s first United match

Ruben Amorim will take the Manchester United manager’s job after the international break, pending official confirmation.

Sporting have dug into extend his stay until then, with his first match coming away at Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town.

It could work out in Amorim’s favour, as he will have two weeks to prepare for his first match in charge, rather than jumping in with just a couple of days notice.

His exit from Sporting may be upsetting, but this was a moment their fans knew would come sooner or later, given the huge success he was enjoying.
