Manchester United’s final squad for the 2025/26 competitive season will be confirmed to a large extent when Ruben Amorim unveils his traveling squad for the USA tour.
In the absence of European games, there are only so many fixtures to go around for minutes distribution, which means Ruben Amorim will work with a small squad.
Therefore, the squad he takes to the USA for preparation against PL teams is likely to be on the same lines as the one that takes the pitch against Arsenal on matchday one.
After Harry Amass was left out vs Leeds with a view to him going out on loan, another academy star is set to see the same fate.

Man Utd to axe Ethan Williams from tour squad
When it comes to ruthless decisions at Old Trafford, Amorim can be appreciated for having a sense of clarity in squad building.
Amass wasn’t even taken to Stockholm because Amorim saw his future out on loan, and now, Ethan Williams is set to follow him.
Williams shone at Cheltenham Town last season in League Two on a six-month loan and was a prominent presence in Man Utd training this summer.
His crossing from wider areas and industriousness made him a potential candidate for the wing-back position in Amorim’s system, even though his best position is as a winger.
As per Nathan Salt, it has been decided that he continues his development elsewhere as United are set to sanction a loan for him this summer.
Having impressed at the League Two level last season, a ‘host of teams’ in League One are now interested in his services, so a loan can be expected soon.
United might sanction another six-month loan in the hope that he impresses enough to jump up another division in the 2025/26 season itself.
Brutal competition for places at Man Utd
Williams and Amass are so far the two ‘casualties’ of what is set to be a season of brutal competition for places at Man Utd.
Salt also reported that Shea Lacey, long tipped for stardom at Carrington, is in a face-off with Jack Fletcher, and it’s a fight he’s likely to lose.
Only one of the two was going to travel to Stockholm, and Fletcher ended up being chosen as he’s seen ‘ahead’ of Lacey at the moment.
It likely means that Lacey won’t go on tour either, especially as Bryan Mbeumo is expected to further crowd the numbers for the attacking midfielder spot.
Both Mbeumo and Lacey are left-footed, right-sided attacking players, so Fletcher being ahead of Lacey seals his fate for the tour.
On one hand, competition for places is what drives the whole squad to be better. On the other hand, fans eager to see some wonderkids breaking out in the USA might have to brace themselves for disappointment when the traveling squad is announced.
